The Bougainvillea Lodge is located near Karatu, just 10 km from the main gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It sits close to the main safari highway, making it a great stopover when traveling to or from the Ngorongoro Crater.
The lodge consists of 20 large, self-contained cottages with comfortable double, twin, and triple beds. All beds are seven feet long, therefore making it one of the very few lodges which cater to the “taller than average” person. Family rooms with interconnecting doors are also available.
Each cottage has its own private fireplace, lounge area, writing desk, en-suite bathroom, spacious walk-around closet, luggage rack, and private outside veranda overlooking all the greenery at the lodge.
The restaurant offers lunch a la carte, and a buffet for dinner. Special meals for special diets can also be catered upon request. There is also a bar at the lodge with a selection of soft drinks, South African wines, beers, and spirits.
Bougainvillea has a pool (with a massage parlour next to it!) which may come as a welcome great relief after a full day of game viewing.
