Amboseli national Park

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is about 150km south of Nairobi and stopping there for a few nights on your way to Tanzania by road is a great idea. Amboseli National Park is almost 400 sq km in size and even though it is in Kenya, it is very close to the Tanzania/Kenya border and lies just north of Tanzania’s Mt Kilimanjaro. Because of its spectacular position at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro and excellent opportunities to view a large number of African wildlife (especially elephants, lions, zebras and antelope), Amboseli National Park is the second most visited national park in Kenya after the Masai Mara.

The people who live around Amboseli are mainly Maasai, but due to the tourist industry and agricultural farming along the area’s swamp systems, people from other parts of Kenya are also established there.

Amboseli National Park is famous for being the best place in Africa to watch elephants roam in front of the highest freestanding mountain in the world.
