St Jude’s Wish List

If you are visiting The School of St Jude during your larger East African itinerary with us, then you may like to put a few things into your suitcases for the students and staff of the school to use. This is by no means compulsory or course.

Urgently Needed: (high-quality items are greatly appreciated)

  • Writing utensils: good quality red pens, good quality HB lead pencils, permanent markers (i.e. sharpies or chisel-tipped), small coloured chalk, white board markers
  • Thesaurus’ and Dictionaries
  • Art supplies: paints such as water-based tempera blocks, water colour block paints & squeezable tubes of acrylic
  • Other stationery: award/merit ink stamps and stickers for teachers, post-it notes, sharpeners, erasers, scissors, A4 plastic sleeves
  • Colouring supplies: thin to thick textas/markers, oil pastilles, wind/twist up crayons, coloured pencils (ie. Faber Castell)
  • Adhesives: blue-tack, clear plastic contact for covering books, paper fasteners, large glue sticks, masking tape rolls
  • Musical instruments: plus music CDs from a variety of genres
  • Games: Scrabble, UNO, Pictionary, Cranium, cards, Monopoly, memory games, puzzles, dice
  • SD USB Card readers (This is a small device that holds the memory card from a camera for downloading pictures)
  • ‘Jolly Phonics’ resources to teach literacy/sounds
  • Plastic Folders with zip or button to close.
  • 2014 diaries –suitable for teachers to use

Educational Resources:

  • Mathematics manipulatives/resources: uni-fix blocks, tessellations, MAB blocks, 2D and 3D shapes, clock faces for individual use, sequencing charts/cards, Trundle wheels for learning distance measurements, learning fractions/decimals resources
  • Educational content posters/charts (please request further details for complete list of topics)
  • Construction kits
  • Quality non-fiction books about: Africa, people, animals, places, the human body (systems, senses, etc.), the environment
    (recycling, geography, natural resources), electricity, “How to” books
  • Track and field athletic equipment – hurdles, discus, shot-put, javelin, measuring tapes
  • Sports equipment: soccer balls, basketballs, netballs, volleyballs,
  • Educational DVDs: “How to”, “Introduction to”, different sports

  • Balls: netballs, volleyballs, Size 5 soccer balls, rugby balls, cones/pylons, skipping ropes, parachutes and pool noodles
  • Sports whistles, big bags for sports balls (preferably with wheels)
  • Coloured bibs for sports (various sizes)
  • Plastic storage containers with lids – all sizes
  • Calendars, international newspapers, educational magazines suitable for students
  • Subscription of Kids National Geographic, Ranger Rick, World, etc.
  • Black & blue school socks (mid-calf length or longer)

***PLEASE NOTE***

  • Educational resources are always required, especially quality information and pictures about Africa.
  • We have plenty of Australian resources in stock and so do not require any more.
  • We do not require any toys.
  • We cannot use any large-sized/stained clothing as there are several local markets that have aid clothing in them in town.
  • If you would like to donate DVDs please make sure they are not Blue Ray DVDs.
